Keiko Mita was born on tiny Rebun Island off the northernmost tip of Japan. Sometimes stormy and isolated, it is set in a crystal blue sea and is ablaze with alpine flora in summer.
The island is a powerful influence in Keiko's aesthetic vision.
Keiko attended Hokkaido University of Education as a Fine Arts Major: Metal smith. Subsequently, she studied mixed-media sculpture at The Emily Carr School of Design in Vancouver, Canada and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a major in Jewelry Design.
Since then, she has worked with many major jewelry manufacturers in the United States and Japan, learning to accommodate each company's technique and style, while still remaining true to her own artistic demands.
In 1995, Keiko's first collections were produced in Japan by First Avenue Inc, a company specializing in high-end 18K, Platinum, Diamond and Precious stone jewelry for the Japanese market.
In 2002, she launched K. Mita Design in New York City. Producing clean and sharp designs in 18K, diamond and semi-precious stones. While the pieces range from geometric to organic, she strives to create lasting modern designs through theme. The themes are based on life experience, multi-cultures and nature. Even the geometries are influenced by nature.
Developing an interesting shape in minimalist form is one of the most important features of her work. Another notable component of her work is the use of color expressed with gemstones, both precious and semi-precious.
In recent years, Keiko has become a household name through television.
