B.F.A., Cleveland Institute of Art, 1981.
Thomas Kurilla. was trained as a fine artist at the Cleveland Institute of Art and studied under John Paul Miller.
Jewelry design allows Thomas to express his ideas artistically, while combining his background and passion for sculpture and industrial design.
A number of different sources have influenced his collections. Traveling, sailing, long distance cycling and even computer parts have been used to inspire the designs.
His designs are modern, yet some have medieval and architectural flares. Certain designs are simple graphic shapes while other designs exploit positive and negative sections to create a rich play of surface contrasts. His style has been described by colleagues as having "a restrained elegance".
